Manchester United have always been the dominant club in Manchester, however are we seeing a shift in power both on and off the pitch.

Manchester City as a club over the past 5 seasons has been transformed into one of the biggest clubs financially and on the pitch in Europe. However it has to be noted that whilst having a great team and big bank account this cannot buy you fans.

This week Manchester City played in the Champions League, a game that should in theory be sold-out or at least 80% full. However the game was no near a sell out and even Pep Guardiola, a manager that has worked successfully with FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, 2 of Europe’s most supported clubs has pleaded with fans to come to the games.

For anyone who lives in Manchester will tell you, Manchester United have most of the fans and are a bigger club, with this all the games at Old Trafford are virtually always sold out.

The only way Manchester City can get more fans is by consistently winning cups and the Premier League for the next 10-15 years. It is already noticeable that Manchester City are getting younger fans which will be great for the future but not for the present.

The owners of the club have to be commended by the way they have transformed the club and the area around the stadium. This project is obviously not about the finances for the owners, otherwise they would have chose a club with a greater fan-base, they are definitely in it for the long-haul.

The power of both Manchester clubs is clear to see, they have arguably the two best managers in the world in Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola and some of the best players in the world in Kevin de Bruyne and Paul Pogba respectably. Financially they can both compete against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid so in the next 5-10 years expect to see a shift in where the European Champions will be from. Can Manchester take over as the football capital of the world, we fully expect so.
